Defence People Innovation Challenge - Supporting Information

1. Research and Development
The MOD spent 拢1.7 billion on Research and Development (R&D) in 2014/5, on top of funding business-as-usual incremental improvements to equipment and systems. We recently published our vision for R&D in the 2017 Science and Technology Strategy. Core elements of this strategy cover People research, designed to optimise the human component of Defence capability, and deliver our future workforce.
People research is delivered through Chief Scientific Adviser鈥檚 (CSAs) (FWAHP), which includes the Achieving the strategic edge through people: 2040 initiative which was launched in 2015. The FWAHP programme covers similar topics to this innovation challenge but its focus is primarily on lower-TRL research, and it is contracted through a more traditional framework.
