Following our departure from the EU, we have the freedom to rethink the type approval scheme to meet the needs of manufacturers and consumers in the UK.

This document sets out a vision for creating a鈥�GB鈥痶ype approval scheme to ensure that new vehicles entering the market meet our high standards for safety and environmental protection.

This will be delivered using 3 principles:

  • standardising vehicle standards at the international level through the鈥�UNECE 听
  • adopting a flexible approach to recognising standards and testing from elsewhere in the world 听
  • exploring the potential for bespoke domestic requirements or processes, where this benefits Great Britain
