Gavin Vessey

Biography

Gavin became Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Bratislava in April 2025. Previously he served as Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Podgorica (2016-19), Political Secretary in the British Embassy Seoul (2011-15). In London, Gavin has worked in the FCDO鈥檚 Democratic Governance Department, Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate, and the Near East Department.

Prior to joining the FCDO, Gavin worked for five years in International Banking for Lloyds Banking Group including roles in the UAE, Spain and Paraguay. Outside of work, Gavin enjoys travelling with his family, sport and walking his dog.

Deputy Head of Mission, Slovakia

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK鈥檚 interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Charg茅 d鈥橝ffaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
