About us
The Office of the Regulator of Community Interest Companies decides whether an organisation is eligible to become, or continue to be, a community interest company (CIC). It is responsible for investigating complaints - taking action if necessary - and it provides guidance and assistance to help people set up CICs.
Who we are
The Regulator of Community Interest Companies (CICs) works part-time and is supported by 7 members of staff from Companies House. We are based within the same building as Companies House in Cardiff.
Responsibilities
We are responsible for:
- considering whether applications meet the criteria to become a CIC
- informing the registrar in Companies House of successful applications, so they can issue a certificate of incorporation as a CIC
- encouraging the use of CICs for suitable enterprises
- providing guidance to enable CICs to be formed and regulated
- 鈥榣ight touch鈥� regulation of CICs, with the minimum of interference
