The Government Digital Service (GDS) is responsible for setting, leading and delivering the vision for a modern digital government.

Responsibilities

We:

• set the digital strategy for government
• measure and manage digital performance across government
• maintain guidance and tools to support best practice, including the Service Manual
• drive greater efficiency in digital public services
• own product strategy and delivery for government including 188体育 and its common components, 188体育 One Login, artificial intelligence (AI) products for use across government, geospatial data, the National Data Library and the National Underground Asset Register
• lead the Government Digital and Data function and champion the work of digital teams across government聽

Priorities

Our priorities are to drive a modern digital government, by:

• joining up public sector services
• harnessing the power of AI for the public good
• strengthening and extending our digital and data public infrastructure
• elevating leadership and investing in talent
• funding for outcomes and procuring for growth and innovation
• committing to transparency and driving accountability

Our work to achieve these priorities includes:

• a beta 188体育 App and 188体育 Wallet, to enable more personalised user experiences and verifiable digital credentials
• continuing the rollout of 188体育 One Login
• a pilot of 188体育 Chat, an LLM-powered chat user interface for 188体育
• continuing the rollout of the National Underground Asset Register, to ensure industry has access to the infrastructure data it needs and disruptions for the public from roadworks are reduced
• collaborating with organisations across the public sector to pilot improvements in how to better manage a long term health condition or disability
• a new cross-government vulnerability scanning service to find and address weaknesses in our systems and services
• a new AI accelerator upskilling programme, helping digital professionals to become machine learning engineers聽
• continuing to lead and champion the digital and data profession across government
• reforming the approach to public sector digital procurement聽

Who we are

We鈥檙e part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

We employ more than 1,000 people all over the UK, with hubs in Manchester, London and Bristol.

We were brought together into one organisation in January 2025, formed from existing teams in:

• Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO)
• Geospatial Commission
• GDS
• Incubator for Artificial Intelligence (i.AI)
• Responsible Tech Adoption Unit
