Western Balkans: Appeal judgment on Ratko Mladi膰
The Foreign Secretary has welcomed today's judgment in The Hague upholding Ratko Mladi膰's convictions of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Former Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladi膰鈥檚 conviction for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity has been upheld at appeal.
Today (8 June) the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) delivered an appeal judgment in the case of former Bosnian Serb Commander Ratko Mladi膰, upholding his convictions for genocide in Srebrenica, War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995. The court confirmed the sentence of life imprisonment.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said:
The UK has played a vital role in bringing Ratko Mladi膰 and other war criminals to justice for the crimes they committed in the Western Balkans. With Radovan Karad啪i膰 serving his life sentence in a British jail, and Ratko Mladi膰鈥檚 convictions upheld, the international community has brought some solace to the survivors and families of victims, and helped puncture impunity for the worst international crimes imaginable.
