UK holds meeting of representatives from the Global Coalition against ISIL
Minister for the Middle East Tobias Ellwood comments on the meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIL

Representatives from 32 countries of the Global Coalition against ISIL met on 28 October at the Coalition鈥檚 Strategic Communications Working Group in London. The meeting was hosted by the Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Tobias Ellwood and co-chaired by US Under Secretary of State Rick Stengel and the UAE鈥檚 Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Anwar Gargash.
Speaking after the meeting Minister Ellwood said:
The Global Coalition remains committed to defeating ISIL on all fronts. As well as the military campaign, the Coalition is working together to counter ISIL鈥檚 poisonous narrative and to challenge its ideology, as well as cutting off their finances and reducing the influx of foreign fighters.
On 28 October I hosted a meeting in London with 32 Global Coalition partners to specifically discuss one strand: the communications effort against ISIL.
As the Prime Minister recently announced, the UK has set up a new anti-ISIL Strategic Communications Cell for which we have committed an initial 拢10 million.
The Cell will work with Coalition partners on undermining ISIL鈥檚 narrative, disrupt and disprove ISIL鈥檚 online propaganda, eradicating online recruitment of foreign fighters and ultimately destroying ISIL鈥檚 ability to spread fear and lies.
