Following recent violent protests leading to multiple deaths in Baghdad, Iraq, the Minister for the Middle East has released a statement calling for restraint.

This was published under the 2019 to 2022 Johnson Conservative government

Minister for the Middle East, Dr Andrew Murrison said:

I am deeply concerned about the situation in Baghdad. My condolences to the families of those who have died.

The right to peaceful protest must be respected: we are urging the Iraqi security forces to show restraint and to respond in a strictly proportionate manner.
