Thornbury angler caught fishing without rod licence near Oxford
Fishing near Oxford without a rod licence has left a Thornbury man over 拢300 poorer.
Enforcement officers regularly visit riverbanks to check anglers have valid rod licences.
Jordan West, 32 from Swallowtail Close, pleaded guilty to fishing without a licence at Linear Fisheries鈥� St John鈥檚 Lake in Stanton Harcourt on 27 April 2024. He was fined 拢146 and ordered to pay 拢135 costs and a 拢58 victim surcharge at Hastings Magistrates Court on 1 August 2024.聽聽
Nicholas Robinson, Environment Agency fisheries enforcement officer, said:聽
What should have been a fun day of fishing has been spoiled by a big, unexpected bill and all the stress that comes with it.聽

Any angler aged 13 or over, fishing on a river, canal or still water needs a licence. A 1-day licence costs from just 拢6 and an annual licence costs from just 拢30 (concessions available). Junior licences are free for 13 - 16-year-olds. Licences are available from鈥€痮r by calling the Environment Agency on 0344 800 5386 between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.聽
