Commenting on today鈥檚 2050 Low Carbon roadmap published by the European Commission, Energy and Climate Change Secretary The Rt Hon Chris Huhne MP said:

鈥淭he 2050 Low Carbon Roadmap must be a first step towards Europe setting a clear, cost-effective and ambitious plan to decarbonise its economy.

鈥淲e need a pathway that stimulates jobs and growth as well as reduces Europe鈥檚 dependence on fossil fuels from other countries.

鈥淭he roadmap shows that Europe鈥檚 current 20% target for 2020 isn鈥檛 enough or cost effective and shows that Europe鈥檚 already got the policies and the tools to cut emissions by 25% at home. This makes the case for going to 30% stronger and more urgent.鈥�
