Statement from Children's Minister Tim Loughton on NAO report on Cafcass

Tim Loughton responds to the National Audit Office (NAO) report on support provided by Cafcass for children in the family court system.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

In response to the NAO report about the support provided by Cafcass for children within the family court system, Children鈥檚 Minister Tim Loughton said:

Cafcass has faced some serious challenges to respond to the continued high level of care applications in the family justice system. The Government allocated an additional 拢10 million to Cafcass to support improvements in the way they operate and as today鈥檚 report highlights, they are improving. But they must make sure they use this investment to improve their performance and effectiveness so they can manage future demand in the system and ensure children鈥檚 welfare is protected. In the long term, we are looking at how best to take forward the two recommendations in the report and will be considering the role of Cafcass as part of the wider review of the family justice system.
