Minister Swire meets with former UK scholars

UK State Minister Hugo Swire hosts afternoon tea for former UK scholars and announces winner of British High Commission鈥檚 Essay winner.

Visiting Minister of State for the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office, The Right Honourable Hugo Swire MP hosted an afternoon tea for UK alumni on Thursday 18 April.

At the afternoon tea, the Minister announced the winner of the British High Commission Commonwealth Easy competition. The winner, Henry Norrie Maim was presented with a certificate and was chosen as the best essay because it encapsulated so eloquently the major themes and objectives of the Commonwealth in today鈥檚 21st century. Mr Maim鈥檚 prize was fully paid trip to Auckland in July where he will represent Papua New Guinea at the Asia Pacific Model UN Conference. Invitees also included Chief Superintendent Perou N鈥橠ranou who recently travelled to Auckland for UK police leadership training and members of the judging panel for the essay competition.

The British High Commission Port Moresby opens applications for the UK Chevening scholarship in December every year to start in September of the next year. Check out our website for announcements of applications opening.
