Lord Risby Visit to Algeria

Lord Risby, the British Prime Minister鈥檚 Envoy for Economic Partnership, paid a visit visit Algeria from 14 to 19 March. He was hosted by President Bouteflika鈥檚 Envoy for Economic Partnership with the United Kingdom, Youcef Yousfi. Lord Risby and Minister Yousfi reviewed progress across the range of areas covered by the UK-Algeria economic partnership.
It was Lord Risby鈥檚 forth visit to Algeria since becoming David Cameron鈥檚 Envoy. The visit was the next stage in the growing economic relationship between the UK and Algeria. Total trade between the two countries grew by 46% in 2013. For the first time, the UK is now one of Algeria鈥檚 top 10 suppliers.
During his visit, Lord Risby met with businesses and government ministers to sign a number of agreements and discuss the potential in sectors ranging from healthcare and education to technology and agriculture.
Speaking ahead of the visit, British Ambassador Martyn Roper said:
鈥淭he UK and Algeria already have a healthy commercial relationship, shown by the 46% increase in trade last year. The agreements Lord Risby will sign during his visit will provide a further significant boost to those figures. The UK is committed to a long-term economic partnership with Algeria.鈥�
