Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said:

鈥淚nternational Women鈥檚 Day is a great reminder of how important women鈥檚 health is.

鈥淲e were one of the first countries to introduce cervical screening, which now saves around 4,500 lives a year. We also have one of the most successful HPV vaccination programmes in the world and nearly five million girls have been protected in just over three years.

鈥淭his is down to the hard work of doctors, nurses, and organisations such as the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, who are on the front line ensuring women get the care need.

鈥淲e are all passionate about the NHS; we all share the same goal of ensuring women always get the best possible care from birth, and why we will all continue to work together to make sure that happens.鈥
