InPERU, Peru鈥檚 annual trade and investment roadshow, will be travelling to London next week as part of its European tour to promote business and investment opportunities in Peru.

This year鈥檚 high-level public-private delegation includes Carlos Oliva, Peru鈥檚 Minister of Economy and Finance, and Julio Velarde, President of Peru鈥檚 Central Reserve Bank.

Lima鈥檚 newly elected Mayor, Jorge Mu帽oz, will join the delegation for a meeting with Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, Foreign Office Minister Alan Duncan, and a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The Mayor will also meet UK transport authorities to explore opportunities to work together with the new Urban Transport Authority in Peru.

The UK is Peru鈥檚 main delivery partner for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Para Pan American Games 鈥 the world鈥檚 fourth largest sporting event - to be held in the Peruvian capital later this year. British expertise, stemming from London 2012鈥檚 legacy, has helped reduce delays and cost overruns since support began in 2017. This example has created a strong appetite to use British models for contracting and managing major infrastructure projects across other sectors in Peru.

The Mayor of Lima, Jorge Mu帽oz, and Carlos Neuhaus, President of the Organizing Committee for Lima 2019, will be joined by business leaders from Arup, MACE, and 4 Global on a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, where they will be briefed on the social and economic aspects of London 2012鈥檚 legacy.

Speaking ahead of the visit, British Ambassador to Peru, Kate Harrisson, said:

The trade and investment relationship between the United Kingdom and Peru has transformed over the course of the last few years.

The UK is now the single biggest investor in Peru. This is due in large part to major mining investments including by Anglo American last year, but we are also seeing strong development in new sectors including green finance and sustainable infrastructure.

The government to government agreement which established the UK as Peru鈥檚 main delivery partner for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Para PanAmerican Games, has put Peru on the radar of UK companies.

British expertise in delivering global sporting events, including London 2012, is at the heart of this partnership. But when we saw what we could do in partnership with Lima 2019 to deliver major infrastructure for the Games, it was clear we could apply UK delivery models to a much wider range of major infrastructure projects. That鈥檚 good for Peru and good for British business.

In London, members of the Peruvian delegation will also participate in a series of bilateral meetings and roundtables, including the second meeting of the Joint UK-Peru Infrastructure Task Force. The first meeting was held in Lima in September last year and agreed a range of actions, including direct UK support for the development of Peru鈥檚 National Infrastructure Plan.

This will be InPERU鈥檚 sixth visit to London. InPERU is a public-private initiative that seeks to attract foreign business and investment into Peru. The UK is the single largest foreign investor in Peru.
