Javier went through a rigorous selection process for a programme that awards outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world. This year the British Embassy awarded two scholarships, as well as Javier鈥檚 to a Honduran national who is going to study at the University of Westminster. Both have been awarded with full scholarships that include travel costs, a monthly stipend, and academic fees.

The Chevening Scholarships are the UK government鈥檚 global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. Chevening Scholars come from 118 countries worldwide, and this year the Scholarships will support more than 600 individuals.

To mark the event, British Ambassador to Guatemala, Sarah Dickson said:

鈥淚 would like to congratulate Javier on his scholarship. The Chevening programme has a rich history and is one of the most prestigious scholarships. His experience in the United Kingdom will expose him to high standards of education and to a rich and diverse cultural experience. Upon his return, I鈥檓 sure he鈥檒l make outstanding contributions to Guatemala鈥檚 development. I wish him the very best of luck.鈥
