Foreign Secretary's trilateral meeting with Poland and Ukraine foreign ministers, September 2022

James Cleverly met the foreign ministers of Poland and Ukraine at the UN General Assembly to underline the importance of working together to counter Russian aggression

Foreign Secretary James Cleverly alongside Polish Foreign Minister, Zbigniew Rau, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

The Foreign Secretary James Cleverly held his first trilateral meeting in his role with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau at the UN鈥檚 General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, to underline the importance of working together to counter Russian aggression. He stressed that UK support to Ukraine is steadfast and that we will continue to work with Poland in assisting the Ukrainians鈥� fight for freedom.

Mr Cleverly recognised Poland鈥檚 huge contribution and the extraordinary welcome聽the country has聽shown to millions of Ukrainian refugees. He said that Ukraine鈥檚 territorial gains聽highlighted how we must all聽redouble our efforts to provide聽military, economic and diplomatic support聽for Ukraine.

The Foreign Ministers discussed the UK-Poland-Ukrainian Joint Commission聽to support Ukraine鈥檚 defence and security and uphold our shared values of freedom and democracy.聽They also spoke on the work and investment required to rebuild Ukraine鈥檚 infrastructure and economy.

Following the Russian President鈥檚 latest address, the three agreed on the importance of聽standing united in condemning the Russian government鈥檚 reprehensible actions and supporting Ukraine to defend its territorial sovereignty.
