Foreign Office Minister congratulates Morocco on Human Rights progress

Hugh Robertson welcomes Morocco鈥檚 recent announcements of important progress on Human Rights.

Speaking today, the Minister for the Middle East and North Africa said:

I warmly welcome the government of Morocco鈥檚 announcement that the process to ratify the Optional Protocol for the Convention Against Torture will be completed imminently which I discussed during my visit to Rabat a fortnight ago. I also welcome Morocco鈥檚 new commitments to investigate complaints of human rights violations made to the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) within a fixed 3 month deadline, and the definitive ending of Military Tribunal trials for civilians. Both initiatives are an important step forward and the government of Morocco is to be congratulated on this important progress towards meeting international human rights standards.
