FCO welcomes US decision to refer British national death sentence for further consideration

Hugo Swire welcomes US decision to refer Linda Carty鈥檚 case for further consideration. The UK opposes the death penalty in all circumstances.

Hugo Swire said:

The British Government welcomes the Appeal Court鈥檚 decision to refer Linda Carty鈥檚 case back to the District Court for further consideration. We have concerns about Ms Carty鈥檚 case and have regularly raised this issue with the relevant authorities.

We will continue to provide consular assistance to Ms Carty through the next stage of the legal process.

As is well known, the British Government opposes the death penalty in all circumstances.
