The Embassy raised 20.000.000 PYG which were used to buy medicine and personal hygiene products for the patients. The donated sum was raised at the charity event 鈥楾omate un T茅 (Have a cup of tea) for palliative care鈥, and by selling cookies during a street party event called 鈥楥alle Cultura鈥. Both initiatives were organised by the Ambassador鈥檚 wife, Mrs. Er茅ndira Hobbs in the framework of the British Week which took place in September.
Local electrical appliances company Inverfin contributed to this cause by donating 11 fans and 2 fridges for the patients鈥 use.
Moreover, we attended the inauguration of the infrastructure improvements to the building hosting the Area of Palliative Care at INCAN.
Around 1720 patients are treated in palliative care. 3700 people die from cancer every year in Paraguay, of which 3000 need permanent care. The INCAN only counts with 10 beds for patients.
