8 March: Roma Capitale and the British Embassy together, against sexual violence in conflict
The initiative took place in the context of the UK鈥檚 priorities for the presidency of the G8, through a campaign launched by the UK Foreign Office 鈥淧reventing sexual violence in conflict鈥 (PSVI).
On Friday 8 March, International Women鈥檚 Day, the Coliseum was lit up with images from the awareness-raising campaign launched by the UK Foreign Office. Images were projected onto Rome鈥檚 most symbolic monument against a phenomenon of horrific proportions, horrific too also for the levels of impunity which surround the issue.
Roma Capitale joined the workgroup set up by the British Embassy in Italy to create awareness and contribute to some recommendations that will be brought to the attention of G8 Foreign Ministers Meeting on 10 and 11 April in London.
Together with Roma Capitale (Department of Equal Opportunity), the UN High Commission for Refugees, the Italian NGOs Se Non Ora Quando and Avvocati Senza Frontiere, are collaborating actively in the workgroup.
British Ambassador in Italy, Christopher Prentice, and Lavinia Mennuni, delegate for Equal Opportunity for Roma Capitale, were present at the projection of the awareness-raising programme on the amphitheatre Flavius.
