China military exercises, 14 October: FCDO statement
FCDO statement in response to Chinese military exercises around Taiwan.
An FCDO spokesperson said:
We are聽concerned by聽China鈥檚 military exercises around Taiwan, which聽increase tensions聽and risk dangerous escalation in the Taiwan Strait.聽
The UK聽reaffirms our聽clear interest in peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, which is聽of critical importance to global prosperity.聽We consider the Taiwan issue one to be settled by people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait through constructive dialogue, without the threat or use of force or coercion.聽We do not support any unilateral attempts to change the status quo.
We call for聽restraint and聽the聽avoidance聽of any further聽actions that may聽undermine peace and stability.
