On Saturday 19 July 2014 the UK government will host , an event developed by young people for young people to ignite action around girls鈥 rights and strengthen young people as leaders of the future. A day of inspiring talks, interactive sessions, debates and sharing ideas 鈥 the ambition is to create a 鈥渞ipple effect鈥 where young advocates help kick-start a national and global youth movement on girls鈥 rights.

The event will cover a broad range of issues relating to girls鈥 rights and empowerment, showcasing positive and aspirational examples for change. A key strand of the event will be a focus on how young people can support a movement to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and child and forced marriage 鈥 two harmful practices which prevent girls and women from having control over their bodies and lives.

Views from the event will feed into Girl Summit 2014 to ensure the voices of young people are represented on these issues.

Although the event is invitation only, you can follow the event on the day through livestreams and follow on Twitter for all the latest updates.
