English scholarships for young Uruguayan footballers
Participants of the "Gol al Futuro (Future Goals)" programme will have another tool to help them in their personal and professional development.
In a ceremony at the Museum of Football, the British Ambassador Ben Lyster-Binns, presented scholarships to 50 young players to study summer courses at the Anglo Institute.
The Ambassador said that besides a good training a well prepared footballer needs to know English. 鈥淓nglish language will be important for you when you play in the Premier League,鈥 joked the Ambassador. 鈥淏ut seriously, whatever you do, English is the universal language and it will be useful for you to speak it.鈥
The beneficiaries of these scholarships are 14-19 year old girls and boys who play in the junior teams of professional clubs and are members of 鈥淕ol al Futuro鈥.
Through this programme the Ministry of Tourism and Sports aims to facilitate the formation of young players through education, health and sport. It started in 2009 and currently includes 3,500 young people who have dropped out of school or are at risk of doing so.
Recipients of the scholarships were recognised for their good performance and achievements during 2014. Six teachers and a programme coordinator will also attend the courses.
