Ahead of his concert in Honiara on Wednesday 6th February, former UB40 frontman Ali Campbell paid a visit to the residence of British High Commissioner Dominic Meiklejohn.

Whilst meeting with the High Commission staff, the singer was offered scones and cucumber sandwiches so that he had a little reminder of home. The arrival of the singer of UK and US No.1 hits 鈥楻ed, Red Wine鈥 and 鈥楥an鈥檛 Help Falling in Love鈥 marks the first concert in the Solomon Islands by an internationally acclaimed artist since RAMSI鈥檚 intervention after the troubles faced by the country from 1998 - 2003.
H.E Dominic Meiklejohn said:
It鈥檚 great to welcome Ali to Honiara. He has played all over the world and his music is loved in Solomon Islands as it is in the UK and elsewhere. I know he鈥檚 really enjoyed the warm Solomon Islands 鈥榳elkam鈥. This event builds on the wonderful cultural year Solomon Islands had in 2012, including the memorable visit by TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The concert was considered a roaring success by the Solomon Island鈥檚 media and by the enthusiastic audience who knew every word to the Birmingham born artist鈥檚 songs and enthusiastically sang along and danced throughout the evening.
Ali鈥檚 visit is further evidence of the role arts and the UK are playing in helping Solomon Islands maintain its peaceful environment, and was a major success for the country, as well as for the promoters who worked hard to make sure Ali and his band could appear in Honiara.
