Detail of outcome

We have decided to adopt our proposed rules and guidance for reformed GCSEs, AS qualifications and A levels in religious studies, with minor drafting changes to clarify some of our expectations.

We have now published final versions of our:

GCSE religious studies

Our new rules will require reformed GCSEs in religious studies to:

  • comply with the Department for Education鈥檚 subject content for religious studies, and our assessment objectives

Our guidance explains:

  • how awarding organisations should take all reasonable steps to ensure the comparability of the different optional routes in GCSE religious studies, and
  • how to interpret our assessment objectives

AS and A level religious studies

Our new rules will require reformed AS and A levels in religious studies to:

  • comply with the Department for Education鈥檚 subject content for religious studies, and our assessment objectives

Our guidance explains:

  • how awarding organisations should take all reasonable steps to ensure the comparability of the different optional routes in AS and A levels in religious studies, and
  • how to interpret our assessment objectives
