This report:

  • gives a summary of the responses to Ofsted鈥檚 鈥楩uture of social care inspection鈥� consultation and the changes we are making as a result
  • sets out what we learned from the pilot inspections that tested the proposed social care common inspection framework (SCCIF)
  • describes the next development steps for the arrangements for the inspection of local authority children鈥檚 services (ILACS)

Consultation description

This consultation seeks your views on proposed changes across Ofsted鈥檚 inspections of children鈥檚 social care. It has 4 parts:

  • principles for children鈥檚 social care inspections
  • a new approach to inspections of local authority children鈥檚 services from 2018
  • a new common inspection framework for social care establishments, agencies, boarding schools and residential special schools from April 2017
  • changes to inspections of independent fostering agencies
