Detail of outcome

We received 901 responses to this request for views. A summary of views and governments response was published in April 2020. We will work with AHDB and stakeholders to put in place the proposed changes. This includes:

  • introducing a five year ballot
  • updating the governance structure
  • prioritising AHDB activity on market development and improving farm performance

Detail of feedback received

February 2019: In late 2018 Defra and the Scottish and Welsh governments ran a Request for Views on the future of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), developed in consultation with Northern Ireland鈥檚 Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA).

The Request for Views was open for 10 weeks from 31 August until 9 November 2018, and received around 900 responses.

We had intended to publish a summary of responses in early 2019. However, due to Defra resources being focused on ensuring our policies and our industries are ready for a deal or a no deal scenario with EU exit, this timing has been moved back.

We will resume the analysis of responses and will prepare a summary for publication as soon as possible. Key stakeholder organisations will be kept updated, and we will publish an updated timeframe in due course.

Consultation description

We are seeking views on the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB). We are particularly keen to hear from farmers, growers, and others across the UK who pay a levy to fund it.

AHDB was created ten years ago. Since then the industries it supports have changed and AHDB has become more strategic and efficient. As we leave the European Union it is a good time to consider what AHDB鈥檚 future role and activities should be.

Which services are most valued? Should levy payers continue to pay money on the same basis in future?

Y Bwrdd Datblygu Amaethyddiaeth a Garddwriaeth (AHDB): Cais am safbwyntiau

Rydym yn ceisio safbwyntiau ar y Bwrdd Datblygu Amaethyddiaeth a Garddwriaeth (AHDB). Rydym yn awyddus iawn i glywed gan ffermwyr, tyfwyr, ac eraill ledled y DU sy鈥檔 talu ardoll i鈥檞 ariannu.

Sefydlwyd y Bwrdd Datblygu Amaethyddiaeth a Garddwriaeth ddeng mlynedd yn 么l. Ers hynny, mae鈥檙 diwydiannau a gefnogir ganddo wedi newid ac mae鈥檙 Bwrdd Datblygu Amaethyddiaeth a Garddwriaeth wedi dod yn fwy strategol ac effeithlon. Wrth i ni adael yr Undeb Ewropeaidd mae鈥檔 amser da ystyried beth ddylai r么l a gweithgareddau鈥檙 Bwrdd Datblygu Amaethyddiaeth a Garddwriaeth fod yn y dyfodol.

Pa wasanaethau a werthfawrogir fwyaf? A ddylai talwyr yr ardoll barhau i dalu arian ar yr un sail yn y dyfodol?
