The Merchant Shipping (Safety Standards for Passenger Ships on Domestic Voyages) (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2022 (鈥渢he 2022 Regulations鈥�) (colloquially known as the 鈥淕randfather Rights鈥� Regulations) apply to domestic passenger vessels operating as Classes III to VI(A) vessels and came into force on 29 December 2022.
There is a two-year phase-in period and domestic passenger vessels which are subject to the Regulations must comply with all aspects of the 2022 Regulations which apply to them by their first survey from 29 December 2024. The Regulations cover various aspects of construction, fire protection and life-saving appliances and arrangements.
