London airport noise exposure contours
Reports and maps showing the magnitude and extent of aircraft noise around Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports.
The Civil Aviation Authority鈥檚 Environmental Research and Consultancy Department estimates noise exposures around London鈥檚 airports (Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted) for the Department for Transport. Contours from 2016 onwards are commissioned and published by the designated airports. The magnitude and extent of the aircraft noise around these airports are depicted on maps by contours of constant aircraft noise index (Leq) values.
The contours are generated by a computer model validated with noise measurements which calculates emissions and noise propagation from arriving and departing air traffic.
