Over £17 million to regenerate Leek Town Centre (Levelling Up Fund 2)
Levelling Up funding has been allocated to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to regenerate Leek Town Centre.
The funding will support three projects that support the Council’s vision to revive the local economy and make it a better place for residents, communities and businesses.Ìý
Upgraded market hallsÌý
The towns Victorian market halls will be refurbished for business and community use.
ÌýÌý
The improvements include:Ìý
- installation of 3 food and beverage lock-up units in the Trestle Market HallÌý
- restoring the Victorian character of shop frontages in the Butter Market HallÌý
- installation of Wi-Fi, CCTV, insulation and heatingÌý
- a new separate entrance into the marketsÌý
- replacing 32 tables with lighter weight alternativesÌý
Nicholson InstituteÌý
Levelling Up funding will also improve the public library, museum and exhibition space at the historic Nicholson Institute. This includes:Ìý
- refurbishing the lower ground floor into a flexible student welfare facilityÌý
- renovating the basement to provide operational space for the libraryÌý
- a new venue for events and weddingsÌý
- increased services in the libraryÌý
- refurbishing the museumÌýÌý
Transforming Brough Park Leisure CentreÌý
Funding will also be used to create new swimming facilities as part of the wider leisure centre transformation.ÌýÌý
Improvements include:Ìý
- building a new 25 metre 6 lane swimming poolÌýÌý
- a new learner pool with moveable floor and refurbished changing roomsÌýÌý
- a new health and fitness suiteÌý
- additional studio space to accommodate group exercisesÌý
- an indoor cycling studioÌý
- additional changing facilitiesÌý
