Levelling Up youth opportunities in Barnsley with £10 million supportÌý(Levelling Up Fund 2)

Over £10 million from the Levelling Up Fund has been awarded to Barnsley to improve opportunities for young people.

The funding will support key projects in Barnsley town centre.Ìý

Redevelopment of the Young People’s Wellbeing HubÌý

Funding will be used to redevelop the Young People’s Wellbeing Hub based at and make upgrades to the YMCA building.ÌýÌý

Improvements will:ÌýÌý

  • ensure that the buildings are fit for the futureÌý
  • allow facilities to be used all year roundÌý
  • create new facilities such as a new multi-use outdoor areaÌý

The redevelopment is a collaboration between Barnsley Council, YMCA Barnsley and local children’s charity, .Ìý

Youth Activity ParkÌýÌý

A brownfield site in the heart of the town will be regenerated into a youth activity park next to the forthcoming .ÌýÌý

The NAVE (Northern Academy of Vocal Excellence)ÌýÌý

Levelling Up funding will transform a vacant heritage court building into a new facility offering outstanding musical experiences for young people from Barnsley and the wider North.Ìý

The new facility will provide:ÌýÌý

  • a home to the award-winning Ìý
  • musical training for hundreds of young people each weekÌý
  • a high-quality specialist training centre for the North of EnglandÌý

Barnsley Civic theatre and creative arts centreÌý

will also refurbish the derelict parts of the building to attract new audiences and interact with younger audiences.Ìý
