拢13.3 million to transform Ellesmere Port Town Centre (Levelling Up Fund 2)
Over 拢13 million from the Levelling Up Fund will support three key projects in Ellesmere Port.
Transforming the market
The market hall in Ellesmere Port will be transformed into a more attractive destination in Ellesmere Port town centre.
The improvements to the building include:聽
- new external cladding with increased insulation to improve energy efficiency, redecorating, and signage
- solar panels on the roof and low energy lighting
- new community events space and areas for business start-ups to access support
- to improve accessibility
- a children鈥檚 play area
Councillor Nathan Pardoe, Cheshire West and Chester Council鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Regeneration and Digital Transformation, said:
Thanks to its brilliant traders, Ellesmere Port Market is a much-loved community asset. The improvements that the council are making will make the market even better.
It鈥檚 clear from the conversations we鈥檝e had that Ellesmere Port鈥檚 residents and market traders firmly believe that it should remain a traditional market. The project team will make sure this happens in a future-proofed Ellesmere Port market that people can enjoy for years to come.
Unlocking land for new homes
Empty and redundant buildings at Civic Offices and Coronation Road within the town centre will be demolished to free up land for developers to build new homes for families and first-time buyers.聽
Improving pedestrian and cycle access
The Levelling Up funding will also support the creation of a safe cycle route from Ellesmere Port train station to the market. New secure cycle parking will also be installed around the market.
