Get a birthday or anniversary message from the King
You can get a free birthday or anniversary message from the King and the Queen Consort for a British national.
Birthdays
You can get a message for someone鈥檚:
- 100th birthday
- 105th birthday
- birthday each year following their 105th
If the person gets a State Pension or other benefit and lives in the UK
You do not need to apply for a birthday message.
This will be sent using the name and address on the person鈥檚 State Pension or other benefit record.
To update a State Pension record, contact the Pension Service.
To update any other benefit record, report a change in circumstances.
If the person does not get a State Pension or other benefit or does not live in the UK
You need to apply for a message. You can apply:
- no earlier than 5 weeks before the birthday date
- up to 6 months after for a belated message

Anniversaries
You can get a message for a couple鈥檚:
- 60th (diamond) anniversary
- 65th anniversary
- 70th (platinum) anniversary
- anniversary each year following their 70th
You can apply:
- no earlier than 5 weeks before the anniversary date if you apply online, or 3 weeks before if you apply by post
- up to 6 months after for a belated message
You鈥檒l need to send a copy of the couple鈥檚 marriage certificate when you apply.

If you do not have a copy of the marriage certificate and the couple got married in England or Wales
Call the General Register Office to apply 8 weeks before the anniversary.
You鈥檒l need:
- the names of the couple
- their current address
- the date and place of the marriage
