The Environment Agency has been working in partnership with the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) to publish a new guide for the management of landfill on eroding and low-lying coastlines.

This guide aims to inform site managers of the risks posed by erosion and sea flooding. This is something that鈥檚 expected to occur more frequently because of climate change and the rising sea level. It occurs when waste from sites is deposited on the foreshore or seeps into the coastal and marine environment.

The guide has been written for coastal managers faced with the problem of the release of waste from sites. It鈥檒l be useful for professionals in a variety of sectors including:

  • waste management
  • pollution prevention and control
  • flood and erosion risk management

This project ran from 2011 to 2013.
