You must register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) if you run an adult placement service in England.
You must register as a 鈥榮ervice provider鈥� - this can be an organisation, a partnership or an individual.
If you鈥檙e registering as an individual, but you don鈥檛 intend to be in charge full-time yourself, you must also register a manager.
Restrictions
You need to provide your Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure number as part of your application. You can鈥檛 complete the application form until you have the green copy of your DBS certificate.

You need DBS disclosure numbers for:
- the providers of the service (whether these are partners or an individual)
- the registered manager

You鈥檒l also have to:
- make a declaration that you鈥檙e medically fit to carry out the role you鈥檙e registering for
- provide details of your doctor and your last employer
How to apply
You鈥檒l need to:
- give details of each location you鈥檒l be providing adult placement services from
- list the you鈥檒l carry out
- meet of quality and safety
- make a 鈥榙eclaration of compliance鈥�
CQC will check your application for missing documents or information and send you a confirmation letter when this is done.
If your registration is successful, you鈥檒l be sent a 鈥楴otice of decision鈥�.
If your registration is unsuccessful, you鈥檒l get a 鈥楴otice of proposal鈥� to tell you why.
Fee
There鈥檚 no application fee, but you鈥檒l have to pay an covering registration, monitoring and any changes to your registration during the year.
You鈥檒l get an invoice for the fee once you鈥檙e registered.
Fines and penalties
You鈥檒l be committing an offence if you carry out a and you鈥檙e not registered with CQC. You can be fined and imprisoned.
