Change the address on your driving licence
Apply online
Change the address on either:
- your full driving licence
- your provisional driving licence
It does not cost anything to change your address with DVLA.
You can still drive while you鈥檙e waiting for your new licence.
If you want to change your name at the same time, you鈥檒l have to apply by post.
You must also:
- change the address on your vehicle log book (V5C)
- update your vehicle tax Direct Debit (if that鈥檚 how you pay)
- change the address on your personalised registration number document (V750 or V778) - if you have one
You can be fined up to 拢1,000 if you do not tell DVLA when your address changes.

Before you start
You need:
- your driving licence
- to be a resident of Great Britain - there鈥檚 a
- to give the addresses you鈥檝e lived at in the last 3 years
- to not be banned from driving
Provide your driving licence number, National Insurance number and passport number if you know them.
If you want to change your photo at the same time
If your licence is valid for at least 2 more years, you鈥檒l have to renew it to change your photo.
If it鈥檚 valid for less than 2 years, you can change your photo when you .
You can either:
- choose to use the same photo as your passport
- send a recent passport-style photo - you鈥檒l get a letter telling you how to send it after you鈥檝e used the online service
It costs 拢14. You can pay by MasterCard, Visa, Electron or Delta debit or credit card. There鈥檚 no fee if you鈥檙e over 70 or have a medical short period licence.
If you鈥檙e moving abroad
You cannot register your new address on your British driving licence. Contact the driving licence authority in your new country of residence.
What happens next
You鈥檒l get a confirmation email from DVLA after you鈥檝e applied. You might be asked to take part in research by email, but you can opt out.
