AAIB investigation to Sud-Aviation SE-313B Alouette II, HA-PPC

Tail boom struck by main rotor blades, Breighton Aerodrome, Yorkshire, 17 July 2016

Summary:

The helicopter flew along the runway at about 30 ft agl and carried out a quick stop. Witnesses reported a nose-up pitch attitude of around 45掳 was attained as the helicopter flared, then, as it levelled, the rotor blades struck the tail boom. The helicopter rotated to the right through 180掳 and dropped vertically to the ground. Everyone on board was taken to hospital; the pilot died subsequently. No technical failure was found which could explain the accident.
